Miss Fashion Belle

my rants and raves, tips and tricks about fashion PR. this crazy world broken down into plain english.

What I’ve Learned from @DKNY About PR and Life

1. Answer people on Twitter.

Social media is about interaction and connection.

2. Be normal and relatable.

Everyone has their things they like and don’t like. Maybe you share some.

3. Everyone can pull off red lips.

@Maybelline Red Revival = life changing. And I have never gotten so many consistent compliments on one thing.

4. Know what people want, make them wait, & give it to them.

Her reveal video was probably one of my most anticipated, favorite things she’s ever done. Keeping her identity secret was well done.

5. Find what you love, love it so much that you’ll do it on other continents, on beaches, and in Paris.

People say you shouldn’t work on vacation but what if you loved your job so much that you did it anyways. That is true passion. And I quote, #PR101 The more you can show that you can do your job from anywhere, the more places you will go.”

6. People respond to honesty and reality…and humor.

It was just #showrequest season. Who doesn’t find those to be hilarious. Telling it like it is isn’t always popular but it is appreciated.

7. Latch onto something that is already popular that you love and make it an event.

I already loved Gossip Girl but when I found out all I had to do was follow the #GG hash tag during the episode and read @DKNY’s funny comments I was sold. And my recent addiction (yes, addiction!) is largely because of her.

8. Everyone loves new things, but not a lot of people expect traditional things. They’ve gotten lost in the new and exciting.

My hand-written thank you notes for jobs and all professional matters has scored me contacts and brownie points. I’m sure placing my hand-written signature at the bottom of my cover letters is also going to make a difference.

I’m sure I’ll be adding to this soon.
